Selenite:
Its name derives from the Greek ‘selenitis’, meaning ‘moonstone’, due to its silky white sheen reminiscent of moonlight.
It is recognised by the International Mineralogical Association under the name gypsum, a term derived from the Greek word for plaster. It belongs to a large family of minerals.
Take care when handling this stone as it is very delicate. Its surface can easily be scratched, and it must not be immersed in water, as it will dissolve.
The main selenite deposits are found in: Brazil, Canada and China
