Howlite:
Howlite is a mineral characterised by its white or cream colour with grey or black veins.
It was discovered in Canada in the 19th century and was named in honour of the Canadian chemist Henry How.
Howlite is mainly composed of calcium borate silicate, belonging to the borate family. It forms in hydrothermal deposits.
It is often extracted as a by-product of the mining of minerals such as gypsum and calcite.
The main deposits of howlite are found in Canada, the United States, Germany, Turkey and China.
