The emerald:
The emerald is an exceptional and highly prized gemstone. It is known for its intense green colour.
The emerald is a variety of beryl, a family that also includes morganite and aquamarine.
Its colour is due to the presence of chromium and vanadium impurities in its crystalline structure.
Natural inclusions, often referred to as ‘gardens’, are common in emeralds and make them unique.
Emeralds have often been associated with fertility, rebirth and protection in many cultures.
It is also mentioned several times in the Bible.
Alchemical texts refer to the Emerald Tablet, which is said to contain the secrets of the philosopher’s stone.
It is also said that emeralds were Cleopatra’s favourite stones.
Certain mines in Colombia are famous for producing some of the world’s finest emeralds.
The main emerald deposits are found in Colombia, Zambia, Afghanistan and Ethiopia.
