Agate takes its name from the River Achates — now known as the Dirillo — in Sicily, where it was first discovered by the ancients over 3,000 years ago. Crafted into tools, amulets and jewellery, it has been a part of human civilisation since its earliest days. It comes in many varieties: Botswana agate, crazy agate, moss agate, …
They are formed in the heart of ancient volcanic cavities, patiently shaped over thousands of years. Successive seepages of water rich in silica and mineral sediments create their famous concentric bands.
In crystal healing, agate is recognised for its many beneficial properties. It provides excellent grounding in times of stress and instils an immediate sense of emotional calm. Wearing it as jewellery helps restore inner balance, whilst fostering a deep harmony between body and mind. It is the ideal ally for cultivating peace of mind in the face of everyday challenges.
- Its hardness makes it fairly durable, but do take care to protect your agate from knocks. We recommend that you remove your jewellery before taking part in any physical activity
- Agate is not affected by water. However, it is best not to wear your stone at the beach or in the swimming pool
- Avoid contact with corrosive products, such as detergents and other household products, which could damage it
- Store your jewellery in a dry place, away from light and heat
- There are several ways to cleanse your stones; please see here: caring for and cleansing semi-precious stones

Tumbled stones:
Our collection of tumbled stones includes a wide variety of minerals. Each offers a unique range of colours, patterns and textures that reflect the Earth’s mineral diversity.
Tumbled stones are pieces of raw minerals that have been carefully shaped by human hands.
This is a mechanical process during which the raw stones are polished.
The minerals are usually placed in a rotating drum containing water and an abrasive. This process takes around ten days.
As the stones rub against one another, they are polished into pebble-like shapes.
Whether for meditation, home décor or to expand your mineral collection, you’re sure to find something to suit you in our online shop.
Agate:
Agate is a variety of microcrystalline quartz characterised by its diversity of colours and patterns.
What makes agate unique are the mineral inclusions and impurities that give it its varied colours and patterns.
They come in a wide range of colours, including white, grey, blue, green, red, brown and black.
Agates form in cavities within volcanic rocks, where they develop slowly from aqueous solutions rich in silica
This formation process results in the creation of characteristic concentric layers.
The main agate deposits are found in Brazil, Uruguay, Madagascar, India and the United States
