- Aquamarine is a fairly hard stone, but it is also prone to cleavage: a blow at the right angle could split it clean in two.
- We recommend that you remove your jewellery before taking part in any physical activity
- It is not affected by water. However, it is best not to wear your stone at the beach or in the swimming pool
- You should also avoid contact with corrosive substances, such as detergents and other household products that could damage it

Its name comes from the Latin *aqua marina* — ‘sea water’. A talisman for sailors since ancient times, it was believed to protect travellers on long sea voyages. A cousin of the emerald, aquamarine belongs to the beryl family. It differs radically from the emerald, however: whilst the emerald is dense and full of inclusions, aquamarine is characterised by its great clarity (transparency).
It forms slowly due to the presence of water and rare elements, often in pegmatites, which are igneous rocks. The conditions under which it forms result in perfectly hexagonal prisms, which can grow to considerable sizes. Brazil is renowned for its abundance of impressive specimens. Aquamarine of excellent quality is also found in Pakistan, Nigeria and Madagascar.
In crystal healing, aquamarine is associated with inner clarity and emotional balance. A stone of communication and tranquillity, it is said to purify emotions and promote a sense of balance and harmony in daily life. It is said to have the ability to develop intuition and to support deep meditation, helping the wearer to find the wisdom needed to let go. As such, it is regarded as a stone of purification and spiritual growth, which encourages one to align with one’s inner truth.

Aquamarine:
Aquamarine is a variety of beryl characterised by its transparent blue-green colour, reminiscent of the hue of seawater.
Its shades can range from pale blue to blue-green, and its colour is due to the presence of iron. Its colour is also said to have made it a talisman symbolising protection for sailors.
Aquamarine crystals form under high pressure and temperature deep within the Earth’s crust.
These conditions allow chemical elements, such as beryllium, aluminium, silicon and oxygen, to combine to form beryl, the basis of aquamarine.
After their initial formation, aquamarine crystals undergo a slow cooling process, often over very long geological periods.
Mineral-rich hydrothermal solutions play a key role in the formation of aquamarine.
These fluids circulate through pegmatites and rock fissures, dissolving beryl and other minerals to form aquamarine crystals.
The main aquamarine deposits are found in: Brazil, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Mozambique and Pakistan
