Chrysocolla:
The name chrysocolla comes from the Greek ‘chrysos’, meaning ‘gold’, and ‘kolla’, meaning ‘glue’.
This name refers to the ancient use of chrysocolla as a soldering material in goldsmithing.
Chrysocolla is a gemstone that comes in a variety of colours, ranging from blue-green to turquoise.
Chrysocolla is a mineral associated with copper and has a complex chemical composition, including copper oxides and silicates.
It is, in fact, the copper that gives it its colour.
Rarely found in its pure form, it often contains malachite or azurite. Very blue specimens can be mistaken for turquoise.
The main chrysocolla deposits are found in Chile, Peru, the United States, Russia, Israel and the Republic of the Congo.
