Red jade:
The word ‘jade’ comes from the Spanish ‘piedra de ijada’, meaning ‘stone of the flanks’.
This name stems from the ancient belief that jade possessed healing properties to relieve internal pain, particularly that related to the kidneys.
Red jade is a variety of jadeite ranging in colour from orange-red to brown-red. Its colour is due to the presence of iron oxides in its mineral composition.
Like other varieties of jade, red jade is mainly composed of aluminium and sodium silicate, but the presence of iron gives it its characteristic red colour.
The main deposits of red jade are found in Burma (Myanmar), China, as well as in Canada and Russia
