Moonstone:
Its name refers to its shimmer, reminiscent of moonlight.
Moonstone is a type of feldspar traditionally associated with femininity and intuition.
Feldspars are a group of rock-forming minerals that are among the most abundant in the Earth’s crust.
Feldspars are mainly composed of aluminium, silicon and oxygen, with additional elements such as sodium, potassium, calcium or barium.
These elements diffuse light through the stone, creating a shimmering effect (adularescence) similar to moonlight.
The main sources of orange moonstone are: Sri Lanka, India and Tanzania
Garnet:
The word ‘garnet’ derives from the Latin ‘granatium’, meaning pomegranate, a bright red fruit.
Garnets form a family of minerals comprising several varieties that share a similar crystalline structure.
They come in a wide range of colours: green, red, orange, pink, yellow, brown, black…
Our tumbled stones are almandine garnet.
Almandine garnet is distinguished by its deep, intense red to reddish-brown colour, which is due to the presence of iron in its composition.
Garnets are often transparent to translucent. Their hardness and transparency make them ideal stones for jewellery.
The main garnet deposits are found in Brazil, India, Sri Lanka, Africa, Australia and Russia.
