Amber:
Amber is a fossilised resin renowned for its warm colour, which ranges from pale yellow to deep brown. It sometimes features red or green hues.
The name ‘amber’ derives from the Arabic ‘anbar’. This name was originally used to refer to ambergris, a substance of marine origin, before being associated with fossilised resin.
Its formation dates back millions of years, when it solidified from the sap of ancient trees.
In many cultures, amber has been regarded as a magical stone, capable of capturing sunlight. The ancient Greeks called it ‘elektron’ because of its ability to produce static electricity when rubbed.
A symbol of protection and energy, amber was often worn as a talisman.
The main amber deposits are found in the Baltic region, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Burma
