- Its hardness makes it fairly durable, but do take care to protect your aventurine from knocks. We recommend that you remove your jewellery before taking part in any physical activity
- Aventurine is not sensitive to water. However, it is best not to wear your stone at the beach or in the swimming pool
- Avoid contact with corrosive substances, such as detergents and other household products that could damage it
- Store your jewellery in a dry place, away from light and heat
- There are several methods for purifying your stones; please see here: care and purification of semi-precious stones
Its name comes from the Italian ‘a ventura’, which means ‘by chance’ or ‘by accident’, as it resembles aventurine glass. It is said to have been discovered by accident when copper filings fell into molten glass, creating glass with a glittering effect. This discovery is said to have taken place in Murano, where the Miotti family of glassmakers kept the manufacturing secret for a long time.
Green aventurine is a variety of microcrystalline quartz; it often contains inclusions of fuchsite, haematite or mica, which give it a slightly shimmering appearance, similar to that of aventurine glass. This shimmering effect is known as aventurescence. The main deposits of aventurine are found in Brazil, China, India and France.
In crystal healing, aventurine is regarded as a stone of harmony and balance, bringing calm to those who are nervous or restless. It is said to help regulate and heal one’s emotions by fostering self-compassion, enabling a better understanding of the root causes of one’s emotional wounds. It is also said to encourage acceptance of the present situation and letting go, helping one to achieve a state of inner calm conducive to decision-making. It is a stone of love for oneself and for others.

Symbol of the Tree of Life:
The Tree of Life is a universal symbol found in many cultures around the world. It represents the force of life, growth, wisdom and the connection between all forms of life on Earth. The tree is rooted in the earth whilst stretching its branches towards the sky, symbolising the unity between the earthly world and the spiritual world.
Aventurine:
Green aventurine is a variety of quartz characterised by its green colour. Its chemical composition is mainly silicon dioxide (SiO₂). It often contains inclusions such as fuchsite, haematite or mica, which can give it a slightly glittery appearance. Its name was introduced almost at the same time as the discovery of aventurine glass, probably because of its resemblance to it. The discovery of aventurine glass is said to have resulted from a chance occurrence (all’avventura) during which particles of copper filings accidentally fell into molten glass.
The main deposits of aventurine are found in Brazil, China, India and France.
