Aquamarine:

Aquamarine is a variety of beryl characterised by its transparent blue-green colour, reminiscent of the hue of seawater. Its shades can range from pale blue to blue-green, and its colour is due to the presence of iron. Its colour is also said to have made it a talisman symbolising protection for sailors. Aquamarine crystals form under high pressure and temperature deep within the Earth’s crust. These conditions allow chemical elements, such as beryllium, aluminium, silicon and oxygen, to combine to form beryl, the basis of aquamarine. Following their initial formation, aquamarine crystals undergo a slow cooling process, often over very long geological periods. Mineral-rich hydrothermal solutions play a key role in the formation of aquamarine. These solutions circulate through pegmatites and rock fissures, dissolving beryl and other minerals to form aquamarine crystals.
The main aquamarine deposits are found in: Brazil, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Mozambique and Pakistan
