Amazonite:
Amazonite takes its name from the legendary Amazon region, although it is not exclusively found there.
Amazonite’s colour variations range from pale blue to greenish-blue. Some display a vivid colour, similar to turquoise, with which it is often confused.
Like other varieties of amazonite, blue amazonite forms in potassium-rich granitic and pegmatitic rocks.
Its blue colour generally stems from the presence of traces of lead and water.
The main deposits of amazonite are found in Brazil, Russia, the United States, Canada and Peru
Garnet:
The word ‘garnet’ derives from the Latin ‘granatium’, meaning pomegranate, a bright red fruit.
Garnets form a family of minerals comprising several varieties that share a similar crystalline structure.
They come in a wide range of colours: green, red, orange, pink, yellow, brown, black…
Our tumbled stones are almandine garnet.
Almandine garnet is characterised by its deep, intense red to reddish-brown colour, which is due to the presence of iron in its composition.
Garnets are often transparent to translucent. Their hardness and transparency make them ideal stones for jewellery.
The main garnet deposits are found in Brazil, India, Sri Lanka, Africa, Australia and Russia.
