Larimar:

The name ‘larimar’ is a combination of the first name Larissa – the daughter of one of the people who discovered the stone – and the Spanish word ‘mar’, meaning ‘sea’, due to its sea-like hues. Larimar is mainly composed of pectolite. It may also contain traces of copper, which contribute to its distinctive blue colour. Larimar forms in volcanic cavities when pectolite reacts with volcanic elements, including copper. This chemical reaction creates the characteristic blue colour of larimar. The Dominican Republic is the only place in the world where larimar is found in significant commercial quantities. Larimar deposits are mainly located in the Barahona region. The main larimar deposits: Dominican Republic
