Dumortierite:
Dumortierite takes its name from the French palaeontologist Eugène Dumortier.
It is a gemstone ranging in colour from blue to blue-violet. Mineralogically, it belongs to the nesosilicate group and is characterised by its hardness and durability.
It forms in aluminium-rich metamorphic rocks, sometimes alongside other minerals such as quartz or feldspars.
Its chemical composition comprises silicon dioxide and aluminium, with traces of iron, manganese and titanium.
Its history remains relatively obscure, as it was long regarded as a mineral of primarily scientific interest.
The main deposits of dumortiérite are found in Brazil, Canada, the United States, Sri Lanka and Madagascar.
