Red jasper:
Red jasper is mainly composed of microcrystalline quartz and belongs to the large family of jaspers. Its red colour is due to the presence of iron oxide in its mineral structure. Red jasper comes in a range of shades from brick red to dark red. It can have an opaque to translucent texture. Specimens of red jasper may display variations in colour and patterns, including spots, bands and swirls. Jasper has a long history of use by ancient civilisations. It has been used to make jewellery, amulets and ritual objects. The main deposits of red jasper are found in the United States, India, Australia, South Africa and Russia.
