Lava stone:
Lava stone is formed during volcanic eruptions when a fragment of lava is hurled into the air and solidifies whilst in flight. It is characterised by its irregular appearance and porous texture. Geologically speaking, it is known as scoria. They are mainly composed of basalt. The numerous voids they contain give them a relatively low density. Basalts are among the most common rocks on the planet, forming a large part of the ocean floor and volcanic flows. Composed mainly of iron and magnesium silicates, lava stone has a unique porous structure, giving it a rough, organic texture. Its naturally rough, black surface can sometimes reveal shades of brown or grey, reflecting its solidification process. The main deposits of lava stone are found in Iceland, Hawaii, Italy and Indonesia. However, this stone can be found all over the world.
