Amazonite takes its name from the legendary Amazon region, although it is not exclusively found there.
The colour variations of amazonite range from pale blue to greenish-blue.
Some display a vivid colour, similar to turquoise, with which it is often confused.
Like other varieties of amazonite, blue amazonite forms in potassium-rich granitic and pegmatitic rocks.
Its blue colour generally stems from the presence of traces of lead and water.
The main deposits of amazonite are found in Brazil, Russia, the United States, Canada and Peru.
