Moonstone:
Its name refers to its shimmer, which is reminiscent of moonlight. Moonstone is a type of feldspar traditionally associated with femininity and intuition. Feldspars are a group of rock-forming minerals that are among the most abundant in the Earth’s crust. Feldspars are mainly composed of aluminium, silicon and oxygen, with additional elements such as sodium, potassium, calcium or barium. These elements cause light to scatter through the stone, creating a shimmering effect (adularescence) similar to moonlight.
The main deposits of orange moonstone are found in Sri Lanka, India and Tanzania.
