Garnet:
The word ‘garnet’ derives from the Latin ‘granatium’, meaning pomegranate, a bright red fruit. Garnets form a family of minerals comprising several varieties that share a similar crystalline structure. They come in many colours: green, red, orange, pink, yellow, brown, black… These necklaces are made from almandine garnet. Almandine garnet is characterised by its deep, intense red to reddish-brown colour, which is due to the presence of iron in its composition. Garnets are often transparent to translucent. Their hardness and transparency make them ideal stones for jewellery.
The main garnet deposits are found in Brazil, India, Sri Lanka, Africa, Australia and Russia.
