Snowflake Obsidian:
What sets snowflake obsidian apart are the inclusions of tiny white crystals of apatite, cristobalite or feldspar, which create patterns reminiscent of snowflakes. Obsidian is a glassy volcanic rock, formed from rapidly cooled lava. It is also known as volcanic glass. Obsidian is created during eruptions by silica-rich lava that cools so quickly that crystals do not have time to form. Unlike minerals, obsidian is an amorphous rock, meaning it has no crystalline structure.
The main deposits of snowflake obsidian are found in Mexico, the United States and Iceland.
