Welcome to our selection of variscite! It takes its name from the ‘Variscia’ region in Germany. This natural semi-precious stone is characterised by its shades ranging from light green to emerald green, sometimes veined with fine white, grey or blue streaks. Its chemical composition is similar to that of turquoise, with which it is often confused. Variscite is mined in the United States, Spain and Australia. It is known to have been cut into jewellery as far back as the Neolithic period and has been found, amongst other places, at the historic site of Carnac.
